Warwick Goble

The first time I came across the beautiful pictures of Warwick Goble was just a month or two into my discovery of the public domain and old books.

We'd gone to Portobello Road Market in London's trendy Notting Hill, renowned for its antiques. It was January, there was snow on the ground and it was freezing! To get out of the cold, we'd wandered into one of the arcades where I came across a lovely stand of old books.

I spotted the name Warwick Goble, who I hadn't heard of before, and was immediately drawn to the name as he of course shares my own surname. After much research though, I haven't found him to be related, more's the pity!

On flicking through the book, I fell in love with the lovely fantasy images it contained. That book was far too expensive for me (pricey in Portobello Road) so I didn't buy it but I've loved my namesake's pictures ever since (and they're very nearly, but not quite, out of copyright!)

These pictures are from one of the many books he illustrated entitled Japanese Fairy Tales. There are many more books of his containing fantasy and fairy images which are absolutely stunning.

Printable Heaven sets featuring these images will follow very soon!
