Floriated Ornament - FREE design images

I've been looking at old design books in the last couple of weeks.

It never ceases to amaze me that there are some really old books around that contain beautiful colour images, long before the printed processes were such that colour books became mainstream.

This one is from 1849 (wow!) and is called Floriated Ornament.  The designs are by Augustus Welby Pugin (1812-1852) who was an English architect, designer, artist and critic.

Some of the individual images from these sheets will make fantastic backgrounds so feel free to get creative with them.  They are well and truly out of copyright worldwide, so have fun with them.

If designing your own backgrounds isn't your thing, we have loads of ready-made card-making backgrounds available.  All of our card-making sets include a free sheet that you can download immediately - take a look at our gorgeous sets at Printable Heaven now.

Beautiful Stained Glass Windows

Every now and again I come across a real gem of a book that I can't wait to do something with.

These images are from an 1886 stained glass window catalogue and this is just a tantalizing little taste - I've saved the best ones to make into card-making kits for the website.

I think the first three would make great card-making backgrounds - especially great for mounting die-cut numbers for special birthday cards.

The last one is for a front-door panel, hence the number.  Unfortunately the catalogue didn't have any similar door panels with the numbers you'd really want in it (30, 40, 50 etc) but this one is nonetheless great if you know anyone whose next birthday is their 55th......

Look out for our beautiful new card kits that I'm currently putting together featuring fabulous stained glass flowers ....... coming soon at
